A half-century each by Priyatosh Paramanik and Ranjit Singh went in vain as Odisha lost to Jharkhand by 19 runs in their second league match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy East Zone U-19 Cricket Tournament at Guwahati today.
Batting first, Jharkhand rode on a half-century each by Shasheem Rathour, Vishal Singh and Kaushal Singh to compile a formidable total of 254 for seven in 50 overs. Skipper Suman Mohanty was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging three wickets for 46 runs.
In reply, Odisha got off to a critical start, losing four wickets for 41 runs. But a valiant stand of 128 runs for the fifth wicket between Ranjit Singh (62, 99b, 4x2) and Priyatosh Paramanik (81, 100b, 4x7) helped the overcome the top-order failure and stay on course for victory. However, Jharkhand opening bowler P Kumar turned the table on Odisha with a six-wicket haul. Odisha were all out for 237 in 49.3 overs.
With this win Jharkhand secured four points while Odisha settled with one point. This was the second successive for Odisha boys, who lost their opening match to Bengal by 29 runs two days ago. Suman and his teammates will next meet Assam on October 26.
